Trainer Thursday: Featuring Christine from FernDog Training

Every third Thursday of every month, a local dog trainer will be present at the store from 4-7pm to answer any questions you may have about training your dog.

This month, we will be welcoming local dog trainer Christine Gossinger from FernDog!

We got to know a bit more of Christine’s experience and insights during a brief conversation. Here are some of her thoughts!

How long have you been training?

I have been training for 3 years.

What would you say is a summary of your philosophy on training?

My method involves positive reinforcement as well as being thoughtful of the human and dog’s needs.

What 3 things do you recommend doing when starting to train your dog?

I recommend understanding what motivates your dog (what are his favorite things?), being thoughtful of expectations, and marrying those expectations to what motivates your dog.

This month is National Dog Month. Do you have any fun activities for dogs that you would like to share?

I like to take my dog on sniffaris. This means taking your dog to a new area and allowing him or her to sniff and walk around the area without interrupting them.

Do you have any other tips or tricks about dog training that you would like to share?

I would say to be in the present and put your phone away while training. Training is also not as rigid as some say; communication is key!

Bring your questions every 3rd Thursday of the month and learn the art of communicating with your Best Fur Friend. Join us to chat, learn and train together.
